Did you know  . . . . . .  that fruit and vegetables lose their keeping qualities when their natural protective layer is washed off after harvest ?

Fruit

Fruit may be considered the original instant food, as it is generally eaten raw. Its flavor ranges from pleasantly sweet to mildly acid with a wide variety of subtle undertones to satisfy any taste. The combination of sweet and sour stimulates appetite and has a beneficial effect on the digestive system. Fresh fruit may be a healthier conclusion to a meal than many elaborate desserts.

With the exception of nuts, fruits contain a large amount of water. This makes them less nourishing but more refreshing than other foods. They may also be considered an important "supplement" due to their high content of vitamins and minerals.

Botanically fruit consists of the edible part of a plant which developed from the flower (and its surrounding tissue). Stores do not follow this classification, but display fruits, such as cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes in the vegetable section.
