Elstar


Medium to large size fruit. Skin is slightly rough, bright orange-red striping with yellow undertones. Cream colored flesh is firm with a sweet-tart flavour. May be eaten fresh, but especially good for making applesauce.

Originated in the Netherlands in 1955 from a cross between Golden Delicious and Ingrid Marie.
Elstar became very popular all over Europe and was introduced to America in 1972.
