. . . that Jonagold is far more popular in Europe than in the U.S.A., where it was developed ?

Jonagold
Large fruit. Striped red over bright yellow to almost entirely red skinned. Juicy, slightly tart flesh. Superb, rich, full flavour. The creamy yellow flesh provides for a firm, crackling bite. The sweet, mildly tart flavour is well balanced and has a rich honey-like aroma.
This cross of Golden Delicious and Jonathan was released in 1968 by New York State's Geneva Station.
