Abate Fetel
The most popular pear available today, particularly in Italy. The main distinction of this pear is its very stretched out, elongated shape. Its aromatic, white flesh is covered with a thin speckled green skin. Check Abate Fetel for ripeness by pressing gently on the stem end. If the fruit gives slightly, it is ready to eat. If not, leave it in a paper bag at room temperature for a few days.
Originally bred by a French monk during the mid-15th century.
