Medium sized fruit. An evenly tapered pear of a golden-green color with a tendency to russeting at the top. The succulent soft flesh is pale yellow, but sometimes appears pink near the core. It has a pleasantly sweet aroma, with a well balanced acidity. Seedless fruit is quite common.
Raised by Thomas Rivers, Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, UK from an open pollinated Leon Leclerc de Laval. This variety took its name from the National British Pear Conference of 1885 where it was exhibited. It is by far the most widely grown variety in the UK.
