Did you know  . . . . . . that in the 17th century, painters always incorporated pears in their paintings particularly for still life and scenery themes?

Doyenne du Comice

Considered to be the finest of dessert pears. Medium to large, round shaped fruit. The yellowish-green skin frequently shows variable amounts of reddish blush undertones. During rainy seasons it may develop a rougher skin. Its flesh is creamy-yellow, extremely juicy and smooth. Very sweet, delicious flavour. Highly scented and aromatic. This pear is excellent for cooking, especially in the preparation of jams and fruit juices.

Raised at the Comice Horticole, Anger, France. First fruited in 1849. From there introduced to Britain by Sir Francis Dyke Acland in 1858. Now present in most pear growing areas throughout the world.
