Red Bartlett
Medium, evenly cone-shaped pear. Its skin is usually red throughout but may show some striping. The white creamy flesh is fine-grained, tender and very juicy with a sweet aroma which reminds one of pineapple. Can be cooked, but their outstanding flavour is best enjoyed when eaten fresh. Also great for displays in fruit baskets.
This pear was once a widely cultivated variety and is presently in decline, despite the many appraisers of the excellent quality of its pulp which is juicy and scented. It is the classic summery pear with a short storage period and it is sensitive to incorrect handling.
