ANIMALS
Since the conversion from conventional to organic agriculture in 1998, a lot more birds can be observed on Fruempac´s grounds. Some species, which almost had disappeared during conventional farming, can be seen again nowadays.
In order to keep track of the increase of the biodiversity found on Fruempac’s farms with the change from conventional to organic and biodynamic agriculture, Fruempac established a complete listing of its flora and fauna in October 2009 in cooperation with an Engineer specialized in assessments and implementing norms. Fruempac is planning to repeat the assessment of biodiversity on the farm in four more years and see, how many more can be found.
In 2009, 22 species of animals were found, among these the "Lechuza", a Patagonian type of owl, which was not seen on the fields during conventional farming as well as falcons, parrots, woodpickers, the Argentinian vermilion flycatcher and the black neck swan.
