Orchard in blossomBy making compost from green waste, PAI Fruempac reduces greenhouse gas emission and improves carbon sequestration.

CO2-footprint:

Apples:
Total footprint: 1.174 kg CO2 / kg

Pears:
Total footprint: 1.126 kg CO2 / kg

What does this mean
The footprint shows the amount of greenhouse gas emission  for one kilogram of fruit, for the whole production process: from the tree in Argentina to the store in Europe. The average CO2 footprint for fruit is 3,4 CO2 / kg, according tot the Food Climate Research network. Roberto’s apples and pears are extra climate friendly.

Technical explanation:
The CO2 footprint of the apples and pears by PAI – Fruempac was measured accurately. All emissions are taken into account, including transport and packaging. The calculations for carbon footprint are based on the reported emissions in 2008. All emissions across the supply chain were identified and analyzed. The assessments are done according to a comparable methodology as described in the PAS 2050, a standard developed by the British Standard Institute. The method takes into account direct emissions and indirect emissions. It was carried out by Soil & More International BV. www.soilandmore.com
