EnergyThe apples and pears of Roberto Garrido and his colleagues are certified organic, so no chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides are used, which saves energy. In conventional farming, these are responsible for major energy inputs; up to 80% of the total. The climate in this region is very suitable for fruit production, with a lot of sun and low humidity; therefore also few organic  inputs are needed. PAI / Fruempac’s apples and pears will therefore be more energy efficient than their non organic counterparts or fruits from other parts of the world. The fruit is transported to Europe by ship, which is the most energy efficient transport method.
