Fraternity, altruism, looking after each other’s needs, a fair distribution of wealth throughout the value- and supply chain are the drivers of an economy that overcomes ‘penny wise pound foolish’ short term profit thinking and maximizes long term wealth for all. Key Performance Indicators include health & safety schemes (BRC, HACCP, Global GAP, etc), fair wages, welfare schemes, ensuring safe and respectful working conditions, rights for full time, seasonal and part time employees
PAI (like most other apple and pear farms in this part of the world) employ both seasonal as well as full time workers. The reason is because during the harvest there is a lot more work (in the field and packing station) than during the other period of the year. The seasonal workers are either locals (from the Rio Negro region) or migrant workers from other parts of the country or continent.
When it comes to respecting human rights, health and safety issues and equal treatment, PAI not only complies to national legislation but has the necessary certifications (to be able to supply European and North American) customers, in place.
