With the Nature & More ‘1 Eurocent for the future’ campaign, long-term educational and welfare projects in the local environment are supported. One eurocent for each kilogram of apples and pears from Roberto and his colleagues goes to a local school, in the small village General Enrique Godoy.
Most inhabitants in this village are dependant on the apple and pear plantations in the region. However, since fruit farming is a very seasonal business, many of the locals do not have a year round income and as a consequence have a very low standard of living. General poverty, lack of drinking water, power cuts and poor housing are just a few of the troubles the village faces on a daily basis.
In 1985 the Isaac Garrido school was established to help children break out of the poverty cycle through a solid basic education. Today the school has around 260 students in seven different levels, with classes running both in the morning and afternoon.
Since the school is in desperate need of renovation and expansion the one cent for the future campaign will focus on a new library and IT classroom, a gymnasium and the planting of grass, plants and trees around the school and consequent irrigation.
