"Hi, I’m Bettina Scholz from Argentina. I grow organic apples, pears and plums for Nature & More, together with my father Enrique Scholz. Our company is called Agro Roca. Thank you for buying our fruit!

Our  farms comprise several orchards which are located in the Rio Negro province in Argentina. This is a river valley at the northern edge of Patagonia, where most of the pears and apples in Argentina are grown. The climate is sunny and dry, but the river provides all the necessary water; it comes straight from the glaciers in the High Andes.

“People would have a greater respect for nature if they saw how complex and fantastic it is”

We strongly believe in the fundamentals of organic farming. My father Enrique who was one of the pioneers in organic farming here in Argentina! In fact, he had the first organic company in the area on a commercial scale. He  is a staunch believer of farming together with nature instead of against it.  He always says that organic farming is like a sailing boat, while conventional farming is like a motorboat.  Both boats will take you somewhere, but they require a  different approach. Sailing requires knowledge of the environment. You must understand aerodynamics, the wind, the weather and the seasons, if you want to make progress. With a motorboat ... you just give more gas.

Most of our orchards are located directly along the river. They are small and are separated from each other by a row of poplar trees that serve as windbreaks. The trees also act as a barrier with conventional neighbours.  The land directly along the river serves as a flood plain and is rich with abundant natural vegetation."

How 'bout the taste?

"OMG! Your pears are absolutely amazing they are like a bit of heaven. Thank you so much for your hard work I greatly appreciate it."

poire Anjou

Hi Bettina,

Pears for thought.

Sat down with my mother ready to eat my pear when I came across your sticker. What a great thing to be involved in. Lets the world go back to feeling local even when you are sp far away. I like the concept of finding out more about where my produce comes from and how maybe the loacl seasons are affecting the crops that year etc. If I hadn't of had a car crash and had to do mail order with Riverford Organics, I would probably have not known about you for a bit longer. So here's to helping feed the masses with food and knowledge.

thanx

Thank you for that personal message! It's very encouraging to here from you in England. I hope the pear tasted good.

Hi,

My son and I ate our pears on a picnic today. They were really tasty and juicy, just what we needed in the lovely sunshine in Devon today.
It's really nice to know where the fruit has come from.
Thank you, Maria & Billy

Hello.
I enjoyed a Pear from you. Good taste, almost as good as a Romanian Pear. I hope all this is for real and not just a marketing gimmick of some nonorganic fruit producer.
Keep up the good work,

Costin

very disappointed with the apples, my children 6 and 9 yrs comments on the apple were 'Mum it does not taste of anything, it just look like an apple" too bad when we pay extra money for organic fruits...

Thanks

I'm not fanatic about apple, but i really appreciate this one, and I m very glad to know that it's made without chemical product! Very tasty!! maybe because it's made with love!

Hi Bettina,

This is a really nice idea of beeing able to see who grew the fruit I'm going to eat. I still can thik of some additional info. adding a google maps widget with the location and also some picture or video might make it even more appealing to watch where the fruit is coming from. For now I'm going to put my apple aside I'm going to eat that a about 2 hours .

Regards,
Peter
