Part of BioExotica's soil management are fallow periods in between production cycles.  After harvest the same ground is used to produce new seedlings. After 8 - 9 months these are transplanted into newly prepared fields which have been allowed to rest for a period of 4 - 5 months.  During this time these fields are sown into mucuna a nitrogen fixing legume.  This rest period is important for the soils to regenerate before the next crop of pinapple is being planted.

In order to improve the soil even more, BioExotica has set up a small compost site and they carry out some research on dedicated fields to monitor the effects of controlled biological compost (CMC) as a soil amendment.  So far they have observed that the pineapple plants on these research plots usually get a better start after planting.  The newly planted pineapple develops much faster and sturdier, particulalry during the initial 4-5 months
