The right to pump water directly from Lake Volta are granted by the government.  It also monitors growers, such as BioExotica to ensure that the farming practices do not cause any erosion and causing silt deposits in the lake.  For this reason, it is important to maintain cover crops on the farm and provide effective drainage ditches.

During the months of November through March, the farm depends entirely on irrigation, because during this time there is absolutely no rain at all.  The fields are then watered by means of a travelling reel and sprinkler canons.  All irrigation is carried out during the night when it is cooler.  Pineapple also absorbs water (and nutrients) through the leaves, which open up during the night and close again in the day.  This way the irrigation practice follows the plants natural behaviour in order to minimize evaporation of water during the hot daytime hours.
