Organic farmers work with nature instead of trying to fight nature.  Florian “ for us that means that we have to tackle our pests with their natural enemies. Great tits for example eat caterpillars and certain flies eat lice.  With bird houses, wind shields, natural flora and special floral areas we try to stimulate the populations of birds and “apple friendly” insects.  Today De Olmenhorst has many varieties of birds including the very special nightingale and the area is known as a special bird reserve. Unfortunately these birds are also very fond of our apples and this is quite costly for us but there is little we can do except learn to accept it.  Luckily the birds of prey in this area (who scare away some of the birds) keep the costs manageable
