Hi, I'm Manrique Kopper from Ecopiñas
Globally Responsible spacer Free from Pesticides and GMOs

Hi, I'm Manrique Kopper and I grow organic pineapples in Costa Rica. Our company, Ecopiñas del Arenal, is located in Northern Costa Rica (Muelle, San Carlos) in the vicinity of the imposing and active Arenal Volcano. The mission of the company (since the farm was established in 2008) is to produce high-quality organic pineapples, protecting the environment, advancing biodiversity, and contributing to the communities in which it operates.

The farm operates on land that was predominantly pasture areas before being planted with pineapples. The land is rented from local land holders who are key members of the surrounding community and important stakeholders for the organic operation, as well as stewards for their land.

Ecopiñas (part of Dole Fresh Fruit International) currently has a production area of 100 hectares of organic pineapples. Non-cultivated areas, such as wetlands and forest areas, represent 40 % of the total area, and are protected under Costa Rican legislation. The farm has established buffer zones around these areas, as well as along creeks and streams which have been planted with local tree species. Among these is the Mountain Almond which is a key habitat for the highly endangered Green Parrot (for more information read the enclosed story).

Some of the farm’s unique agricultural practices include a soil conservation and management plan, an on-farm composting facility using pineapple crowns as one of the main inputs, and a research department to study plant nutrition and production and the use of effective microorganisms in compost and soil.

This is the first time I buy an organic pineapple. I wanted to buy it because I've heard that conventional grown pineapples harm the nature and the workers badly. I already knew about bananas so I've bought organic bananas for many years. From now on I will only buy organic pineapples and I will tell my friends to do it too. Fairtrade is very important.
I tasted your pineapple today and it was sweet, juicy and very delicious!

Muchas gracias,

I've bought four pineapples from Your farm yesterday and eaten 1 today :-)

Thank You for a great "OPLEVELSE" (a danish word with more than one meaning
from experience or adventure to impression or "liveliness"; OP+LEVE = Live+Up )

Since I was a little child I've loved pineapple, but in many years I've avoided them
because they tasted bad, wrong ...But some years ago I discovered organic fruits
and found out that I were just able to taste the toxins in the un-organic pineapples !

Now I'm restructuring my life (I weigh 50 kg too much) and are eating organic food
- I'm on the fasting diet (5:2 day-diet) and trying to continue making indie-movies ...

I'm glad I saw the movie on, cause I thought pineapple had to
be golden and soft to finger-pressure to be ripe ! Perhaps the small note attached
to the fruit should tell about this ripeness, that pineapple don't ripe further and must
be kept refrigerated . I guess the fruits are stored and shipped refrigerated too ?

Love what You're doing for us all, for nature & future !

          Thank You very very much

Hi Edgar,
Having bought one of your pineapples, my wife and I found it delicious.
However, we are now very disillusioned to find out that Ecopiñas is in fact part of Dole Fresh Fruit International, ie the Yankee multinational corporation and largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world that is certainly not so eco-friendly in other parts of the world, and is actually taking part in the destruction of our planet!
So unfortunately we'll never buy another fruit again.

Dear Michel, my name is Michaël and I worl closely with Edgar. Firstly I want to thank you for taking the time to send a message regarding the pineapple. We are glad to hear that you and your wife loved the taste. Furthermore, we understand your concerns regarding Dole. For the past 24 years, we at Nature & More have been committed to organic farming and fully stand behind the principles. We are and have been supporting organic heroes around the world that are making this planet cleaner, safer and more social. When it comes to the Ecopinas farm (which happens to be part of the Dole group), we fully support the work that is being done because it shows that pineapples can be grown in harmony with nature. This farm is an example to conventional farms and therefore we hope and expect more pineapple farms to follow sustainable farming methods. We believe that this is a good way to really change things. Obviously we fully understand and respect your opinion but we hope in a small way you understand our position. Meilleurs salutations !

thank you

Avatar Posted by Henk Zoutewelle (Product Manager Pineapples) at Oct 18, 2013 11:30 AM
Dear Heidi, Thank you for buying N&M Pineapples. Good news that the fruit was delicious. The producers do a lot to produce a good Pineapple. It is nice that we succeed. This is the best massage a producer can get ! Plastic label / Crownless Pineapple: Thank you for your critics. It is correct that it is not a yet a compostable label. The main use of the crownless Pineapples is to save 35% in Transport costs en reducing of CO2 emission. But I like to explain why the use of this label. We also sell our Pineapples in Supermarkets were our Organic Pineapple are sold besides conventional Pineapples. In some occasion and sometimes on purpose the labels between conventional Pineapples and Organic Pineapples were switched and therefore the Organic Pineapples has been check-out in the store as a conventional Pineapple. Therefore we needed for organic pineapples a non removable label. That is why we developed this non-removable label. We did not had the occasion yet to improve this label to a compostable label. But thank you for your comments and we will but it with much higher intention on our to do list. Best Regards, Henk Zoutewelle (PIneapple Product Manager at Eosta) +31 6 53 45 17 23

I'm sorry to tell you this. We bought a natureandmore pineapple for the first time a few days ago. It looked ripe but had almost no taste - more like an apple than a pineapple. We always try to buy organic produce. But, Oh dear.

Avatar Posted by Ute in Ireland at Mar 12, 2012 10:23 PM
I bought one in Ireland today as a special treat. Very tasty indeed! Very juicy and flavourful. We buy mostly organic produce and grow a lot of our own apples, pears and berries but every once in a while we look past the food mile issue and buy something exotic for a bit of variety and sunny flavours in the grey, dreary winter climate here. FYI, I bought it in a small organic food shop in the West of Ireland and it retailed at 4 Euro. Worth every penny!

thank you!

i have bought in La Haya(The Hague, Den Haag) Netherlands 2 pineapples (ananas) from yr plantage thru Aldi supermarkt, delivered by eosta waddinxveen. I think for about 5 euro or less. I am not interested in the price/quality rate; I only like to know how to judge whether the ananas is ripe or not for consumption. They look very greeny and feel concrete like hard. I have no experience eating ananas but from cans!! thanks in advance, for the advice.

Dear consumer , thank you for your interest in pineapple consumption. We would like to clarify basically 2 points , first once the pineapple is harvested it is ready for consumption so whenever you see a pineapple at the market it has been previously selected at the farm as already ripen, and secondly in the case of organic pineapples you will always find it greener than conventional since there is no application of a degreening agent, what this degreening agent does for the conventional pineapples is to bring together the internal and external color of the fruit.

thank you very much. I thought a green ananas/pine apple is not ripe for consumption, now I know eco-ananasses remain green even when ripe, i am going to eat them now.immediately...

Danke!

Price of your Organic Pineapples at retail shops in Italy

Avatar Posted by Valerio Costenaro_Italy at Mar 31, 2011 09:36 PM

I have just eaten with plesant taste a Bio / Organic Pineapple Code 761 from Natureandmore
(Eosta Waddinxveen Verp.NL KC8 117 Checked by: NL-BIO-01 SKAL 1013)
produced by Ecopiñas del Arenal S.A.
I bought it from a local Bio shop here in Italy (Vicenza district- North-East).
The Weight of the pineapple was Kg.1,412 and I paid the price of EUR-7,20 (seven euros and 20 cents: at the price of EUR-5,10 per Kg ).
I feel this price may be too expensive even for an organic excellent pineapple.

I would very much appreciate your comments on this price issue.

My thanks and my compliments for your achievements.

Best regards to all of you.

Buenas noches.
Muchas Gracias.
