Growganics, the Netherlands
Video
Hi, we are Fons, Rob, Frank, Jeroen, Ruud and Rini and we all grow organic tomatoes and other specialty greenhouse crops such as peppers, egg plants, cucumbers etc. Although we market our products jointly, we all have our unique greenhouse operation which carries the individual stamp of each grower. Read on or click on our names to find out where in Holland we are located.
Our farm is located in the south-east of The Netherlands, close to the border with Germany. Me and my brothers Leo and Jac grow organic tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. In the greenhouse, we use birds and insects to help us with biological control! Also, we make use of a combined heat & power system (CHP) to save energy.
My greenhouse lies in a beautiful quiet polder in the west of Holland, between Rotterdam and The Hague. We grow biodynamic /Demeter tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and more. This means that we manage the farm in a holistic way and pay a lot of attention to local nutrient cycles. Our farm is also a typical family farm.
I own three greenhouses near Tinte, a small town in the south-west part of the Netherlands. We grow organic peppers and tomatoes. We are specialized in snack tomatoes and special tasty varieties. A special feature of our farm is the organic water management: we save rainwater and vitalize it with plants, snails and fish. Our crops love it!
Yona (Annie and Jeroen van Leeuwen)
Our farm is located in the south-west of The Netherlands, next to the Brabantse Wal Nature Reserve. We grow organic tomatoes and peppers here with excellent taste. In organic agriculture the tomatoes grow a bit slower and the total harvest volume is smaller. Working with real soil and organic fertilizers means that the plant absorbs more trace elements, in different proportions. All this contributes to a better taste!
Greenshield (Ruud & Annelies van Schie)
Our greenhouses are situated in the “Noord-Oost” polder, close to the small village Ens. The history of this specific polder goes back to 1918 when the Dutch government decided to reclaim this part of the North Sea. We grow organic tomatoes and peppers here. On our farm we try to be conscious about biodiversity and the climate. Together with the University of Wageningen we developed a new air management system that reduced our energy use by 20%.
Our greenhouse is situated in the south-west of the Netherlands, near the city of Bergen op Zoom. Next to the farm is a smaller nature reserve area called ‘Lievensberg’. We grow organic tomatoes, cucumbers and zucchini’s. The soil is sandy in this area, so we use compost to improve the soil fertility. Composting is good for biodiversity in the soil and for carbon sequestration, so it benefits the climate too.
