One of the most positive side effects of organic agriculture is that it encourages and stimulates bio diversity. Many Nature and More growers are proud of the diverse range of birds, mammals and plants that can be found on their land and see it as a clear sign as to how “healthy” their operation is.

Mike and Gay Prevôst have ensured that their farm is not just covered by fruit trees but actively stimulate and protect areas of indigenous shrubs and trees.  They have found that this helps encourage the biodiversity and breeding habitats for birds and beneficial insects.  What they have also done is build special bat boxes.  These “bat houses” encourage the Egyptian free tail and Cape serotine bats to live on the farm and feed on the insects. Furthermore, the farm has numerous ponds and perennial streams that help act as silt traps preventing erosion and creating breeding habitats for frogs and toads.
