Hi, I’m Eduardo and I grow lovely apples in Chile!

Hi, I’m Eduardo Weldt from Chili and I grow organic apples for Nature & More, together with my sister Daniela. Our farm is called Nancagua and it’s part of the family business Puelche. Thank you for buying our apples!

We grow apples in the southernmost area where apple growing is possible. Our orchards are located near Los Angeles, Chile, about 550 km south of Santiago. Therefore we have large temperature differences between night and day; this causes a beautiful colour in the apples and a perfect taste!

We started Nancagua in 1993, when we began with the cultivation of apples. In 2006 we converted to organic. We grow Royal Gala, Fuji and other apple varieties. Apart from that we also have blueberries and rose hip. The rose hip grows naturally on an island that we own, and is harvested by small independent farmers from the region.

Our farm forms part of our family enterprise "Puelche S.A. Hierbas". My father and mother founded it. Our family has been producing medicinal herbs since 1975 and has more than 100 permanent employees. Me and my brothers and sisters all work for our parents company, everyone in a different area.

Due to this strong family structure, we have a flat hierarchy and make a lot of effort to have good traceability (knowing where the products came from and how they were produced) and sustainability.

Love your apples

Thank you for growing these apples and selling them here in Selfoss, Iceland. They are the best!
I'd like the wrapping of the apples to be more ecological, but you are forgiven for that because you are sending them such a long way and they are so good.

thank you

Thank you for your comment Kristjana! Great to hear you love the apples. I will answer for Eduardo because he did not pack the apples himself, they were packed with Nature & More in Holland. The apples are packed in a bag that is certified 100% compostable according to EN13432. It can be thrown away with the organic waste and in that way it is as ecological as possible at the moment.

That is good to hear, what about the black foam tray, is that also compostable?

Dear Kristjana,
I asked our packing manager, just to be sure. We normally do not deliver black trays to Iceland, but green PLA trays which are compostable. So our guess is that the apples were repacked in Iceland. If you wish, we could try to trace it, if you give us the details about your purchase, like the daycode.

Thank you Alexis, I am going to examine the tray better and I will get back to you if I find out that your delicious apples are repacked here. Thank you very much for your trouble, it has been very enlightening to read your anwers, I thought all plastic and foam packages were unecological, now I know better thanks to you.

Fantastic apple!

Dear Eduardo,
I really liked your apple - i watched you on youtube, but didn´t understand anything. But that is okay, because the apple was good.

in the Dumpster on the Åland archipelago

Nice Apples, great website and idea with the traceability, unfortunately i pulled the apple with one minor bruise out of a supermarket dumpster in downtown Mariehamn, of the autonomous Åland archipelago/Finland. So much food (25-30% in developed European nations) goes to waste, sad thing, after having been grown with much care and shipped halfway around the globe. Sometimes it's 30 kg of organic bananas, sometime loads of apples or potatoes, you name it, if it's not perfect anymore they throw it out and i eat it, and since there is so much i try to give away as much as possible.
check out my blog if you want to see more evidence of thrown out food

Juicy apples

I love to be able to see who grows my fruit! I just ate one of your lovely apples for breakfast. It was very tasty and juicy - even after it's long journey from your orchards all the way to my home in Iceland. Thank you and I look forward to enjoying many more of your apples.

Your tiny stamp on my apple caught my eye. With a strong light and magnify glass, I found your number and web site. A very unique way to get attention. It worked. I want to say Thank-You and your family for all the time, effort and love that you put into your apples, my favorite fruit.

All the best to you.
