Freedom
Math “Firstly, we have a group of young people with a handicap who help us out with all our chicory activities and work around the farm. My wife Toos is supervising this group. The second group are our elder guests who come to the farm as a day activity. This is run by my daughter Eefje”.
For Math, Toos and Eefje, the most important key performance indicators under “Freedom” is to give people the chance to develop themselves. That is why they decided to set up a care farm at Vorsterhand.
Care farming is basically combining simple farming activities with the care of people, in a setting where they feel safe, respected and engaged in meaningful activity. The farms are used as a base for promoting mental and physical health through normal farming activity. Basically it is a partnership between farmers, participants and health & social care agencies, that develops people's potential rather than focusing on their limitations.
