"Birds love organic" campaign launched !
The Dutch society for the protection of birds, Hoogvliet supermarkets and Nature & More recently launched the “Birds love organic” campaign. The goal of the campaign is to let consumers know that organic agriculture has a positive influence on biodiversity especially birdlife. During the campaign, customers of Hoogvliet supermarket can collect six Nature & More grower stamps (to be found on organic fruits and vegetables)and stick these on a special flyer. When they send the flyer with the stamps to Nature & More, they receive a wonderful birdfeeder set from the Dutch society for the protection of birds.
Research
British research has shown that the biodiversity on and around organic farms is much richer compared to the conventional counterpart. There are more plants and animals to found. This comes as no surprise because the organic farmer chooses to work with nature and does not use chemical fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides which leads to less insects and plants. Organic farmers and growers look at nature in a different way and gladly make use of insect eating birds.
Unique Campaign
The “birds love organic” campaign is a unique campaign because it enables consumers to take action themselves by feeding the birds in their gardens and on their balconies.
Ed van Venrooij, spokesperson at Hoogvliet is very positive about the campaign: “one of the pillars of Hoogvliet supermarkets is: Hoogvliet is good for “ people and planet”. Biodiversity and respect for nature play an important role. With this campaign, our customers can “do their bit” and help the birds, that is something we encourage and support”.
Martijn Overbeeke, of the Dutch society for the protection of birds is also very enthusiastic. “ with this campaign we expect to reach a lot of people who are not aware of our activities. That is not only good for us but also for the birds”.
Michaël Wilde, Marketing & Communications manager at Nature & More is particularly happy with the cooperation between Hoogvliet, the Royal society for the protection of birds and Nature & More. “this campaign is an excellent example of how different organizations can work together to achieve a goal that would not have been possible if they went at it alone. Everyone benefits and that is important when setting up such a campaign”.
The campaign also has an interactive element. Wilde explains “we are encouraging everyone who receives a birdfeeder set to take photographs of the birds and send them to us. We are placing the pictures on the Nature & More website and facebook pages and this way we want to encourage more people to get involved. www.natureandmore.com code 680
