Maghrabi Farms
Organic Oranges
Egypt
Hi, we are Mahmoud El Shishiny and Abdelhamid Demerdash of Maghrabi Farms (MAFA). We produce organic oranges and other citrus fruits in Egypt for Nature & More, and we also grow vegetables such as haricot verts, mangetout peas and sugar snaps.
Organic since 1999: experience you can rely on
MAFA has been certified organic since 1999. That long track record matters: organic farming is not a quick switch, but a system you build over years. It requires deep attention to soil fertility, plant health and smart crop management—so the farm stays productive and resilient season after season.

Biodynamic (Demeter) farming: a holistic approach
In addition to organic certification, MAFA also produces biodynamic (Demeter) products. Biodynamic farming is a holistic approach that focuses on the vitality of the whole farm. In practice, it means working in a way that is minimally dependent on outside inputs, strengthening natural cycles and aiming for a balanced, self-supporting production system.

From citrus to vegetables: consistent quality across crops
Whether we are growing citrus or fine vegetables, our focus is consistency—from field decisions to harvest and handling. By combining organic and biodynamic principles with disciplined farm management, we work to deliver produce that performs well from farm to customer, while staying true to a long-term vision for sustainable agriculture in Egypt.
Certified organic (since 1999) and biodynamic (Demeter) citrus production — no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides lowers greenhouse-gas emissions.
Compost-based fertilization and natural soil management instead of intensive input reliance reduce energy demand and support climate resilience.
Organic compost and enriched soils improve water retention — critical in Egypt’s arid region where water conservation is essential.
Use of compost and recycled organic waste supports soil moisture management, helping mitigate water stress despite regional irrigation needs.
Agricultural waste and cow manure are composted on-site to create high-quality compost, restoring fertility and organic matter in formerly desert land.
Chemical-free cultivation preserves soil microbiology and long-term soil health, avoiding degradation common with conventional farming.
Composting and organic farming help maintain biodiversity by supporting soil organisms, beneficial insects and a healthier ecosystem vs. conventional intensification.
By rehabilitating desert land into productive organic orchards, Maghrabi Farms contributes to habitat creation and ecological regeneration.
Organic production avoids hazardous agrochemicals — improving working conditions and safeguarding farmers’ health.
Close involvement of growers (marketing and field presence) fosters strong relationships, local knowledge transfer and social responsibility.
Maghrabi Farms’ shift since 1999 supports sustainable agriculture in a region that was formerly desert — contributing to food security and rural development.
Their commitment to organic/biodynamic farming and compost recycling sets a standard in Egypt for sustainable agribusiness practices.
Producing certified organic citrus for export markets provides access to premium segments, offering growers better income and long-term viability.
The company operates 7 fully certified organic farms, showing scalability and reliability — important for consistent supply and business sustainability.
