Organic vegetables
The Netherlands
Hi there! I am Hans Rozendaal and, together with my brother Jan, we grow a wide range of organic vegetables in an area called the Hoekse Waard, a beautiful region south of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Our farm is a true family business: our history here goes back to 1946, when our grandfather bought this land.
A family farm with deep roots
When our grandfather started, it was a mixed farm with a few cows, pigs and chickens, alongside arable land. Over time, the farm evolved and specialised—while staying rooted in the same principles of caring for the land and producing food with integrity.

Organic vegetables grown close to home
Today we produce a broad assortment of organic vegetables. In the Nature & More community we are also known for organic green and yellow zucchini (courgettes), grown in the Dutch climate and delivered as fresh, local organic produce.

Farming for the long term
Being a multi-generation farm comes with responsibility: the choices we make today shape the soil and the business for the next generation. That long-term mindset is a key reason why organic farming fits us—because it encourages a system that keeps the land healthy and productive, season after season.
Since 1996, Hans & Jan have shifted to organic cultivation — no artificial fertilizers or chemical pesticides, resulting in lower CO₂ emissions than conventional agriculture.
Through broad crop rotation and natural cultivation methods, their farming system is less input-intensive and more sustainable over the years.
Organic cultivation with compost, green manures and good soil management improves soil structure and increases water retention — beneficial for overall water management.
By avoiding chemical inputs and farming according to natural principles, they contribute to cleaner groundwater and surface water in the region.
Soil fertility is built through compost, animal manure and crop rotation — no artificial fertilizers needed.
Crop rotation and green manures (such as grass/clover) provide natural nitrogen fixation and soil restoration, strengthening soil life and structure.
The farm includes herb strips, wild zones, nest boxes and untouched areas — attracting insects, birds and small mammals.
Natural pest control through parasitic wasps, ladybirds and other beneficial insects maintains biodiversity and replaces chemical pesticides.
Organic cultivation means employees and family members are not exposed to artificial fertilizers or chemical crop protection products — resulting in a healthier working environment.
As a family farm with generations of knowledge, there is strong involvement, craftsmanship and continuity — providing stability for both workers and owners.
Rozendaal supplies organically grown vegetables to regional markets and supermarkets — strengthening local food supply and short supply chains.
By collaborating with other organic farmers and promoting sustainability, they help strengthen the organic agriculture sector.
Through organic quality and a diverse range of vegetables (cabbage varieties, courgettes, leeks, celeriac, etc.), they serve a niche and conscious market — providing economic stability.
Their focus on small-scale production, quality and regional sales makes their business sustainable and less dependent on large-scale conventional agriculture.
