These baked pears are tender and fragrant, sweetened with brown sugar, warm cinnamon and crunchy walnuts — a cosy dessert that’s easy to make and perfect served with cream or yoghurt.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe pears, halved and cored

  • 60 g brown sugar

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 60 g walnuts, chopped

  • 1–2 tbsp melted butter or olive oil

  • Optional: honey or maple syrup

  • Optional: vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (for serving)

Method

  1. Preheat: Heat oven to 180°C.

  2. Prep pears: Place pear halves in a baking dish, cut-side up.

  3. Mix topping: In a bowl combine brown sugar, cinnamon and chopped walnuts.

  4. Assemble: Drizzle pears with melted butter or olive oil, then spoon the sugar-nut mix over each pear half.

  5. Bake: Bake 20–25 minutes until pears are tender and the topping is golden.

  6. Serve: Drizzle with honey or maple syrup if you like, and serve warm with ice cream or cream.

Ingredients

  • 250 g plain flour

  • 150 g sugar

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • Pinch of salt

  • 2 large eggs

  • 120 ml vegetable oil or melted butter

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3–4 ripe pears, peeled, cored and sliced

  • Optional: 1 tsp cinnamon or nutmeg

Method

  1. Preheat: Heat oven to 180°C. Grease and line a loaf or round cake tin (~23 cm).

  2. Dry mix: In a bowl whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt (add spices if using).

  3. Wet mix: In another bowl whisk eggs, oil and vanilla.

  4. Combine: Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir until just combined. Gently fold in pear slices.

  5. Bake: Pour batter into your prepared tin and bake 50–55 minutes until a skewer comes out clean.

  6. Cool & serve: Let cool before slicing, and enjoy with coffee or cream.
