Pro-Plum Organics

Hi, We are Paul Jr & Sr, and we represent Pro-Plum Organics in the Waterberg region of Limpopo, South Africa. Together with our family and dedicated team, we grow delicious organic plums, nectarines, peaches and more. Our orchards are fully organic – nurtured with compost and natural methods, without synthetic chemicals. Thank you for choosing our fruit and supporting sustainable farming!

From cattle to organic stonefruit

Our family farm in Limpopo started back in 1968 with cattle. In 1995 the first plum orchards were planted, and since 2005 the entire farm has been managed 100% organically. Over four generations, we have grown into South Africa’s only commercial producer of organic stonefruit and apples.

What makes our orchards special is the location: the pollution-free Waterberg Highlands, with clean mountain water, fertile soils and a climate well suited to fruit. Hail nets protect the trees, and thanks to natural pest control our orchards form part of a living ecosystem.

Today we produce a wide range of fruit – from plums, nectarines and peaches to apples and even crops like pumpkins and sweet potatoes. All fruit is packed in our own dedicated organic packhouse, ensuring full integrity.

For us, organic is more than a label. It’s a way of farming that builds soil health, supports biodiversity and delivers fruit with real flavour and nutritional value – good for people and the planet.

Interview with Paul Roos Jr.

What distinguishes your company from others?

After starting with cattle in the 1960s, our family shifted to fruit orchards in the 1990s. By 2005 we decided to go fully organic – no parallel production. The clean Waterberg Highlands offer the perfect climate for stonefruit, and with organic methods we’ve built something unique: healthier soils, richer biodiversity, and the only commercial organic stonefruit production in South Africa.

What makes your cultivation approach different?

Instead of using synthetic inputs, we produce our own compost and worm-tea, enriched with natural humic and fulvic acids. Pests are managed through natural predators, with organic sprays only as a last resort. Every piece of fruit is packed by ourselves – ensuring that from orchard to box, everything remains 100% organic and traceable.

What does the fresh export mean for the cooperative?

For us, exporting fresh organic stonefruit is a milestone. Until 2005, organic fruit from South Africa was almost unknown. By going fully organic and building our own dedicated packhouse, we created the opportunity to reach international markets. Fresh export now allows us to showcase South Africa’s only commercial organic stonefruit to Europe – adding value for our farm, our workers, and the wider community.
